Vladimir Putin, during a conversation with military personnel at the Central Military Clinical Hospital named after P.V. Mandryka in Moscow, stated that tests were conducted the day before on another promising complex — the unmanned underwater vehicle 'Poseidon', equipped with a nuclear power unit.
According to him, it was possible for the first time to launch not only the vehicle's starter engine but also its nuclear power unit, on which the vehicle operated for a 'certain amount of time'. Putin emphasized that the advantage of this vehicle is its small size with power that significantly exceeds the power of the intercontinental missile 'Sarmat', stating that the latest Russian weapon has no analogs in the world.
At the same time, he promised that Russia would soon put 'Sarmat' on combat duty, although he had already announced this in both 2023 and 2024.
Putin first spoke about 'Poseidon' in 2018, and in 2024 he stated that the tests of the 'Poseidon' vehicle are in the final stages. Meanwhile, in 2022, CNN, citing sources, reported that the tests of 'Poseidon' in the Arctic Ocean likely ended in failure.
The statement about the 'Poseidon' tests came just three days after the announcement of the 'Burevestnik' tests, to which Donald Trump responded by mentioning the presence of an American nuclear submarine off the coast of Russia and advised the Kremlin to think better about a peace agreement with Ukraine. In response, Putin voiced a new threat.
