2025.10.27

In the fall of 2023, they set fire to a defense facility, and in 2024 they planned to set fire to a critical infrastructure facility

The State Security Service of Latvia sent materials to the prosecutor's office to initiate a criminal case against four people for «malicious actions against critical infrastructure», as reported on the agency's website.

According to the special service, a group of individuals, on the orders of Russian special services, committed actions aimed against the security of Latvia.

The investigation began back in June 2024, and according to the investigation, on the initiative of Russian special services, a group of individuals was created to commit particularly serious crimes, including arson of critical infrastructure.

In the fall of 2023, the suspects planned and carried out an arson attack on a facility belonging to a private company associated with the defense industry. In addition, at the beginning of 2024, they planned to set fire to cargo trucks with Ukrainian license plates on the «territory of a critical infrastructure facility», conducted reconnaissance on the ground, and filmed the facility on video.

Latvian law enforcement accuses two Latvian citizens of assisting Russia, aimed against the security of Latvia, and of intentionally damaging someone else's property. The third suspect is charged by the service with finding individuals who actually perform the tasks. The fourth suspect is charged with aiding the crime, as he transported the task executors to the crime scene in his vehicle and then helped them leave.
