The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Treasury Department imposed new sanctions against Russia due to the lack of «serious readiness for the peace process» in Ukraine.
Two major oil companies — «Rosneft» and «Lukoil» — and their subsidiaries were subject to restrictions. In particular, oil refineries in different regions and the Russian Innovative Fuel and Energy Company, which is engaged in developing new technologies for oil production.
Soon after the announcement of the sanctions, US President Donald Trump told reporters that the time had come to impose restrictions. «I felt that the time had come. We waited a long time», he said.
US Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the department is ready to take additional measures if necessary «to support President Trump's efforts to end another war».
«Today's actions increase pressure on the Russian energy sector and reduce the Kremlin's ability to generate revenue for its military machine and support a weakened economy. The US will continue to advocate for a peaceful resolution of the war, and achieving a lasting peace fully depends on Russia's readiness for good-faith negotiations», said the US Treasury Department's statement.
