Russian special services planned attacks in Poland, Lithuania, and Germany using drones and explosives disguised as corn cans, reported the Polish newspaper Wyborcza, citing Polish intelligence and the prosecutor's office.
According to the Internal Security Agency (ABW), Russian special services were preparing attacks using drones and corn cans containing explosives. It is assumed that the drones were supposed to drop these cans on unspecified targets. Authorities detained 27-year-old Vladislav D., who is considered an agent of Russian intelligence. He is suspected of transporting drone components and explosives between Lithuania, Poland, and Germany.
Wyborcza writes that one cache with cans was buried in a cemetery in Kaunas, Lithuania. The suspect was supposed to deliver them to Poland following instructions from a handler he communicated with via Telegram. Additionally, during Euro 2024 in Germany, he brought drone parts and a SIM card to Düsseldorf.
As the publication writes, in Spain, authorities also detained an acquaintance of Vladislav D. named Sergey. He was extradited to Poland.
In July, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the detention of 32 people suspected of collaborating with Russian special services and carrying out orders for sabotage and attacks. Among them are citizens of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Colombia, and one Pole. Polish and European authorities linked Russian intelligence to fires at DHL and IKEA warehouses, surveillance of an airport near the Ukrainian border, and preparations for sabotage against trains carrying weapons and humanitarian aid to Kyiv.
On the night of September 10, Russian drones flew into Polish territory. The UAV debris was later discovered in the border Lublin Voivodeship and the city of Mnisków in the center of the country. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that it did not plan strikes on Poland, and the Foreign Intelligence Service called the incident "provocations of the Kyiv regime," claiming that Ukrainian special services were preparing sabotage in Poland.
