The 65-year-old activist Mikhail Kriger, sentenced to seven years for «justifying terrorism» and «inciting hatred», ended the dry hunger strike he was holding in the colony, reported his support group. However, the hunger strike itself, which he has been on for 29 days, has not been stopped by the activist.
Kriger was kept in isolation under the pretext of ensuring his safety. The activist himself repeatedly stated that nothing threatens him in the colony, and the administration isolates him so that he cannot communicate with other convicts. On September 25, he announced a hunger strike in protest against the isolation.
«There is comforting news: Misha has returned to the so-called „wet“ hunger strike, meaning he started drinking water. He drinks hot water, sweet tea. His blood pressure is 120/80, saturation (an important indicator for a person suffering from asthma) is 98%, which is very good», — the message states.
The support group emphasizes that Kriger does not plan to start eating.
Earlier, in support of Kriger, actors Martin and Janet Sheen, John Cusack, philosopher Slavoj Žižek, and Garbage rock band vocalist Shirley Manson addressed a letter to the administration of IK-5 colony in the Oryol region. They asked the colony administration to stop Kriger's isolation in a solitary cell, allow him to serve his sentence among other prisoners, and grant permission for a visit with his daughter.
