On the night of October 19, drones attacked the world's largest gas processing plant in Orenburg. Governor Yevgeny Solntsev confirmed the attack and reported that one of the plant's workshops caught fire, but no workers were injured. The plant belongs to Gazprom, with a processing capacity of 37.5 billion m³ of gas per year. The facility is located 1500 km from the front line.
In addition, as a result of the Ukrainian drone attack, a fire broke out at the refinery in Novokuybyshevsk, Samara region, with a capacity of 8.3 million tons per year. The plant is located 1000 km from the border with Ukraine. In September and August, the refinery twice suspended operations following attacks by Ukrainian drones.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the attacks on the Novokuybyshevsk refinery in the Samara region and the Orenburg gas processing plant. According to preliminary information, the refinery's primary oil processing units were hit, with explosions and fires recorded. At the gas processing plant, one of the gas processing and purification units was hit, and a fire also broke out there.
The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan published a statement saying that the Orenburg plant has suspended the intake of raw gas from the Karachaganak field,
«According to PJSC Gazprom, on October 19, 2025, an emergency situation occurred at the Orenburg gas processing plant due to a UAV attack, as a result of which the plant temporarily ceased the intake of raw gas from the Karachaganak field», — the statement said. The nature of the damage and the timeline for resuming operations are not specified.
