According to data from «Mediazona»*, collected from the search database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, which also includes missing persons, 560 residents of the Kursk region are still not found. In total, journalists were able to track 1,388 Kursk residents on the Ministry of Internal Affairs website who were included in the search database since the moment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine invasion, of which 517 people were found in 2024, and another 318 — in 2025.
Despite the fact that the Ukrainian occupation was lifted more than six months ago, the database of missing persons continues to be actively replenished by residents of the region. In September 2025 alone, 40 people were added to the Ministry of Internal Affairs website (in the neighboring Belgorod region, there were 26 new missing persons during the same period).
In mid-July, Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova stated that about a thousand Kursk residents are still listed as missing.
At the end of August, the governor of the Kursk region, Alexander Khinshtein, reported that there are 2,132 names in the specially created local registry, but only 590 of them are listed as missing, noting that the authorities «understand the whereabouts of 300 of them.
In July, the Investigative Committee reported that «during the invasion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region, 331 people died, and more than 550 were injured».
