The Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to the Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai, author of the novel «Satantango», published in 1985. He became a literary sensation in Hungary, and then worldwide. Krasznahorkai is the winner of the 2015 International Booker Prize.

American critic Susan Sontag soon proclaimed Krasznahorkai a «master of apocalypse» in contemporary literature. László Krasznahorkai masterfully depicts the fierce struggle between order and chaos, showing that no one can escape the consequences of terror.

The Nobel committee noted the writer for «his compelling and prophetic work, which in conditions of apocalyptic terror reaffirms the power of art».

Among his most famous novels are «The Melancholy of Resistance» and «Seiobo There Below», «War and War».

Since 1901, the Nobel committee has awarded 117 prizes in literature. Four literary prizes have been shared between multiple laureates.
