The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the Nobel Prize in Chemistry laureates for 2025. They are Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar Yaghi.
The 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry laureates created molecular structures with large spaces through which gases and other chemicals can pass. These structures, metal-organic frameworks, can be used to extract water from air in the desert, capture carbon dioxide, and store toxic gases.
The Chemistry Prize is the third of six Nobel Prizes to be awarded this year. Previously, the laureates for Physiology and Medicine and Physics were announced. Each prize is awarded for the groundbreaking contribution of an individual or organization in a specific field.
