The governor of the Perm region reported on Friday morning that Ukrainian drones attacked Berezniki at night, where the ammonium nitrate and other chemicals plant "Azot" is located, noting that the plant is operating normally.
"A two-apartment residential building was damaged. Fortunately, there are no casualties. At "Azot," there was a brief stoppage of the technological cycle, and now the enterprise is operating normally. There are no environmental threats, and the safety of residents is not at risk," wrote Makhonin in the Telegram channel.
The previous evening, Telegram channels and local public pages reported a series of explosions on the territory of "Azot." Local Telegram channels, citing the Ministry of Emergency Situations, wrote that the cause could have been an explosion of a refrigeration unit in one of the workshops. No UAV threat was declared in the city.
The "Azot" plant is the largest producer of nitrogen fertilizers in Russia and the sole supplier of several chemical products: higher aliphatic amines, sodium nitrate, and crystalline sodium nitrite. It produces ammonia, urea, and ammonium nitrate, which have dual purposes — used in agriculture and in the production of explosives. In 2024, the enterprise reported record production volumes — over 2.3 million tons of products.
