«Important Stories»* obtained a complete list of those mobilized from the Tomsk region. In the fall of 2022, 2,153 residents of the region were mobilized for the war against Ukraine.
Over three years, at least 522 mobilized from the Tomsk region were killed, went missing, or were injured. That's every fourth person. At least 11% were killed.
Every fourth mobilized person from Tomsk died in the war in the very first year. Six soldiers drafted from this region died just 32 days later. They were placed in a rural community center near Kremennaya, and that same night the building was destroyed by a HIMARS strike. On average, it takes 517 days from the draft notice to the funeral notice.
At least 13% of Tomsk's mobilized were injured by the war. 18 out of 289 people who were wounded over three years have already died at the front. About half of the cases involve shrapnel and gunshot wounds. In 49% of cases, the wounded were classified with a mild degree of injury, in 36% — moderate. Such degrees were even assigned to nine mobilized individuals without limbs, including the amputation of both legs. This is done to quickly return soldiers to the front and avoid paying large compensations.
According to calculations by «Mediazona»** and the Russian BBC service**, a total of 1,022 natives of the Tomsk region have died in the war in Ukraine.
