“Nothing personal, no antisemitism, I just can't stand you”

In Germany, a store owner hung a sign in the window saying “Jews not allowed,” after complaints from residents, a criminal case was initiated, and the sign was removed

A sign with the inscription “Jews not allowed! Nothing personal, no antisemitism, I just can't stand you” appeared in the window of a store in Flensburg, reported NDR radio.

According to the police, several crime reports had already been filed by Wednesday evening. Gerhard Ulrich, a representative for the Jewish community in Schleswig-Holstein, also filed a report against the store owner. The sign is reminiscent of Nazi rhetoric. “For me, this is terrible in terms of the development of our society,” said Ulrich.

The store owner stated that the note was a private expression prompted by his frustration with events in the Gaza Strip. According to him, he removed the sign at the direction of the police.

The Center for Information and Documentation on Antisemitism in Schleswig-Holstein recorded 588 incidents last year, setting a new record since its founding. In 2023, 120 cases were registered. According to the center's director, the sign in Flensburg demonstrates “blatant hatred of Jews, which very much resembles Nazi practices.”

On Thursday afternoon, the Flensburg prosecutor's office initiated a criminal case against the store owner on suspicion of inciting national hatred. The sign was seized as evidence.
