The Second Western District Military Court sentenced 22-year-old Moscow student Georgy Voronkov* to 25 years in prison. He was found guilty of preparing explosions on two gas pipelines in Voronezh and a number of other crimes, reported «RIA Novosti». He will spend the first four years in prison, the remaining term in a high-security penal colony.

Voronkov was found guilty of treason, illegal acquisition or possession of explosives, public calls for terrorism, and public justification of terrorism.

The pharmacy student was detained in September 2022 in Voronezh when he retrieved components for an improvised explosive device from a cache. According to the investigation, the young man, «holding radical pro-Ukrainian views», contacted representatives of a nationalist organization recognized as terrorist in Russia. Initially, he recorded videos in support of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and then received an assignment to arrange an explosion on two gas pipelines in Voronezh.

Voronkov partially admitted guilt and did not repent. «I did nothing, what should I repent for? I partially admit guilt under Article 275 of the Criminal Code (treason). I admit that I cooperated with a curator and knew [what I was going to do]», — TASS quotes him.
