In Ukraine, a suspect was detained in the murder of the former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy. This was first reported by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, later followed by reports from the heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the national police.

«There are initial testimonies from the suspect. Further urgent investigative actions are currently being conducted to establish all the circumstances of this murder», — Zelensky wrote in his Telegram channel.

According to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, the alleged shooter was detained in the Khmelnytskyi region 36 hours after the crime. «There won't be many details now. I will only say that the crime was carefully prepared: the victim's movement schedule was studied, the route was laid out, and the escape plan was thought through», — Klymenko reported.

The head of the Ukrainian national police, Ivan Vyhovsky, wrote on Facebook,* that «the crime is not accidental, there is a Russian trace in it».

The former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy, was shot on the morning of August 30 in the center of Lviv. He died before the arrival of the medics. The killer shot the politician eight times in the back and then fled.

During Euromaidan, Parubiy was the commandant of the tent camp and the leader of the «Maidan Self-Defense». It was he who announced the victory of Euromaidan at the end of February 2014, declaring from the stage that «Maidan today fully controls Kyiv».
