Estonia extradited to the US a person accused of supplying strategic goods to Russia

An Estonian citizen used a network of shell companies because he was under US sanctions, he was detained in 2023

The Police and Border Guard Department handed over to the US Estonian citizen Andrey Shevlyakov, accused of illegally supplying strategic goods to Russian defense industry enterprises and state institutions using complex supply chains and a network of shell companies, reports ERR.

In 2012, the US included Shevlyakov and companies associated with him in the sanctions list of individuals whose activities pose a threat to US national security and contradict the country's foreign policy interests. He was prohibited from exporting any goods from the US without the appropriate license.

Shevlyakov was detained in March 2023 as a result of a joint operation by the FBI and the Estonian State Security Department. Since May 2024, he has been under electronic surveillance. Now the legal proceedings against Shevlyakov will continue in the US.
