NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at a meeting in the German Bundestag on August 28 hinted that Europe is seriously preparing for war with Russia. Here is what he specifically said, that this year Russia will produce 1500 tanks, 3000 vehicles, and hundreds of Iskander missiles. China already has the largest naval fleet in the world.
"The increase in Russian military production shows that Russia is preparing for a long-term confrontation. But Europe and America are also changing the situation in the field of defense production. NATO agreed to invest 5% of GDP. Germany plans to allocate 153 billion euros by 2029, doubling expenses over eight years.
Deterrence (of potential Russian and Chinese aggression —NT.) is ensured by the ability to fight, not 5%. Rheinmetall (at the opening of which Rutte came to Germany —NT.) plays an important role. This plant plans to produce 350,000 shells a year.
This year, factories in Germany, Spain, Hungary, South Africa, and Australia will produce 700,000 artillery shells.
We need ships, planes, tanks, drones, and ammunition that must be delivered faster than ever. To accelerate production, we are learning from Ukraine's industrial mobilization experience. We need to launch currently unused production lines, speed up processes, ensure component supplies, reduce dependency, keep prices under control to buy more and replenish arsenals," said the NATO Secretary General.
