He was charged with articles on state treason, preparation for sabotage, and participation in a «terrorist» organization

The Central District Military Court in Yekaterinburg sentenced 26-year-old life safety and physical education teacher from Izhevsk, Daniil T., to 18 years in prison on charges of state treason, preparation for sabotage, and participation in a terrorist organization, «Mediazona»** found out. The prosecutor requested 20 years of strict regime.

According to the investigation, the young man, on assignment from the «Freedom of Russia» legion, was preparing to set fire to a transformer substation near a drone manufacturing plant. He must spend the first three years in prison, and the remaining term — in a strict regime colony. After his release, T. will be prohibited from attending mass events, rallies, and processions for one year.

The prosecution claims that in February 2024, the teacher filled out a questionnaire for the «Freedom of Russia» legion. In March, an «unidentified user» contacted him via Telegram, offering to gather information about the Izhevsk LLC «Finko», which produces drones. The teacher photographed the object and surrounding area, after which the curator assigned him to assist in setting fire to the transformer station. Following instructions, the man made two Molotov cocktails from gasoline and motor oil, found a crowbar to pry open the booth doors, and bought masking tape. Early in the morning of May 19, he hid everything needed near the substation, covering it with trash, and sent the coordinates of the cache to the curator. Another person was supposed to set fire to the substation.

For this work, the teacher was promised $700 in cryptocurrency, but he never received the money. Shortly after setting up the cache, T. was detained. In court, he confessed.

The user Shadow m8n, whom the investigation considers the curator from the SBU, was not identified by Russian law enforcement, and in the case materials, he is referred to as an «unidentified representative of the international terrorist organization „Legion Freedom of Russia“» and a «serving officer of the Ukrainian special services».

* Recognized as a «terrorist» organization in Russia.
** Recognized as a «foreign agent» in Russia.
