The Prosecutor General's Office demanded to recognize the former State Duma deputy Magomed Gadzhiev* and his family members as an 'extremist organization'

2025.08.20

The basis of this organization is 'political and ideological attitudes' supporting 'hostile foreign states to the Russian Federation', the agency claims

The Prosecutor General's Office filed a lawsuit in the Soviet District Court of Makhachkala demanding to recognize the former State Duma deputy from 'United Russia' Magomed Gadzhiev and his family members as an 'extremist organization', as well as to confiscate their assets worth more than 2 billion rubles in favor of the state, reported RBC. The 'organization' includes Gadzhiev himself, his civil wife Nina Kolomiytseva, the former deputy's son Magomedrasul Gadzhiev, and sister Raisat Gadzhilova. Besides them, the defendants in the lawsuit are Gadzhiev's father Tajudin and son-in-law Magomed, as well as Kolomiytseva's parents.

'The basis of this organization is political and ideological attitudes expressing support for foreign states hostile to the Russian Federation, including Ukraine and their armed formations,' the agency believes.

The lawsuit states that after the start of the war in Ukraine, Gadzhiev left Russia and abroad 'continued to provide financial assistance to Ukrainian paramilitary formations' and 'discredit' the Russian army. In addition, the ex-deputy also 'expressed readiness' to cooperate with Western intelligence services in exchange for obtaining foreign citizenship.

The agency's lawsuit also states that Gadzhiev received at least 45 million dollars from US government structures 'for disclosing confidential information', citing data from the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Magomed Gadzhiev was a State Duma deputy for 18 years, until 2021. He co-authored the first law on 'foreign agents' in 2012. In May 2023, he himself was recognized as a 'foreign agent'.

In April 2024, 'Kommersant' learned that a year before, the Investigative Committee had charged the former deputy in absentia with organizing the murder of Maksud Sadikov, the rector of the Makhachkala Institute of Theology and International Relations, which occurred in 2011. In December, a court in Dagestan arrested the accounts and real estate of Gadzhiev and his relatives.
