Of these, 300 participated in the Chechen wars, while 297 residents of the region died in Chechnya during both wars

In the list of deceased natives of the Irkutsk region and Buryatia, which «People of Baikal» have been maintaining since the start of the full-scale invasion, as of August 18, there were 6,602 names. Of these, 3,333 were residents of the Irkutsk region and 3,273 were residents of Buryatia.

According to the publication, the three-hundredth deceased was added to the list, whose obituary stated that he participated in combat operations in Chechnya. Meanwhile, in Chechnya itself, during both wars, 297 residents of Buryatia and the Irkutsk region died.

The majority of former participants in the Chechen wars — approximately two-thirds — were mobilized in the fall of 2022. Judging by the age of the deceased, these individuals were first forcibly sent to the war in Chechnya during their mandatory military service, and then, 20 years later, forcibly sent to the war in Ukraine, note «People of Baikal». Many of them fought for a total of five years — two years in Chechnya and three in Ukraine.

The list of deceased also includes former participants in other armed conflicts. In Syria, 121 deceased from Pribaikalye fought in Ukraine, in Afghanistan — four, in Georgia — five, in Nagorno-Karabakh — 11, in Tajikistan — 10, in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions since 2014 — eight people.
