Russia and Ukraine conducted another prisoner exchange under the formula '84 for 84'

2025.08.14

More than fifty civilians have returned to Ukraine, many of whom have been held in Russia since 2014-2017

The Russian military released from captivity are now on the territory of Belarus, with no further details provided by the Russian authorities.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that among the civilians released today are those who have been held captive since 2014, 2016, and 2017, as well as defenders of Mariupol.

The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, wrote that the youngest person released today is 26 years old, and the oldest is 74 years old. 'The feature of this return is that it was possible to free 51 civilians, illegally detained or sentenced to long terms: among them are men and women. These are political prisoners, citizens of various categories, including medical workers. Some Ukrainians have been in captivity since 2015-2016. There are also those whom Russia detained after 2022 in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine,' the ombudsman said. He also added that of the 33 military personnel released today, 10 are officers.

The Coordination Headquarters notes that this is the 67th prisoner exchange since the start of the full-scale invasion.
