The person who discovered this mass grave in 1997, Yuri Dmitriev, has been in prison for nine years on trumped-up charges, and on August 1st, he was sent to solitary confinement for 13 days

Every year on August 5th, the victims of the Great Terror of 1937-1938 are remembered in the Sandarmokh clearing in Karelia. Sandarmokh — is one of the largest mass graves of those who perished from Stalin's repressions, with over 6,000 people executed there. The head of the Karelian «Memorial», local historian Yuri Dmitriev, who is currently in prison, was the organizer of the expeditions that discovered these graves.

In 1997, historian Yuri Dmitriev found the execution site in the Sandarmokh clearing. Through his efforts, this place became a memorial where annual remembrance days for the victims of Stalin's terror are held.

And for nine years now, Dmitriev himself has been held in prison on fabricated charges. He is placed in solitary confinement and denied medical examination despite his deteriorating health. In June, Dmitriev was sent to solitary confinement for «poor performance of exercises during morning exercises».

Ten days ago, he was transferred to Barashevo to a hospital for prisoners for a planned medical examination. For two years now, they have been unable to conduct an examination for suspected cancer, while the complex of associated diseases is becoming more serious.

This time, after the transfer to the hospital, it turned out that they forgot to send his medical record. And when a few days later the record was finally sent, Yuri Dmitriev was already placed in solitary confinement for 13 days by the decision of LIE-3 head Alexander Yakovlev.

This happened on August 1st, the reason for the punishment — allegedly Dmitriev sat on the bed 10 minutes earlier than the officially allotted rest time.

Yuri Dmitriev is 69 years old, and his health has significantly deteriorated during his imprisonment. Sometimes he is simply unable to stand on his feet due to dizziness, and such «punishment» has already been applied to him in IK-18, where he is serving his sentence.

August 5th — is a day of remembrance for the victims of the Great Terror, but also a day when we speak about the case of Yuri Dmitriev. Write him a letter, support the political prisoner in the colony.
