Attorney General Pam Bondi on Monday instructed her staff to take action in connection with a criminal referral submitted by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard regarding an alleged conspiracy to link President Donald Trump with Russia, reports Fox News Digital.
Bondi instructed a federal prosecutor to initiate legal proceedings, and it is expected that the prosecutor will present evidence to a grand jury in the case, allowing the department to seek a possible indictment.
A Justice Department spokesperson stated that the attorney general takes Gabbard's referral 'very seriously' and sees 'clear grounds for deep concern,' as well as the need to take further steps.
Two weeks ago, the US Department of Justice confirmed that it received a criminal case referral from Gabbard. It contained a memorandum titled 'Concealment of intelligence indicating that Russian and criminal entities did not influence the 2016 presidential election through cyberattacks on infrastructure.'
Former President Barack Obama and his intelligence staff allegedly promoted a 'fabricated narrative that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to help President Trump win and sold it to the American people as if it were true,' Gabbard claimed at a briefing dedicated to intelligence data.
