The 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced Peter Gorbunov*, a native of Kazakhstan, to 17 years in prison in a case of 'treason', participation in the activities of a 'terrorist' organization, and illegal acquisition and possession of explosives, TASS reported citing the FSB press service. The man was also ordered to pay a fine of 600 thousand rubles.

According to law enforcement, Gorbunov established contact with representatives of an unnamed banned 'terrorist' organization in Russia. Subsequently, on the curator's assignment, he 'retrieved explosives from a cache in a forest area' and stored them at his home, intending to later transfer them to a 'representative of the terrorist structure for carrying out terrorist acts in the Belgorod region'.

Details of the arrest and investigation are not disclosed, in February Gorbunov was added to the register of 'extremists and terrorists'.
