Donald Trump threatened countries supporting the 'anti-American BRICS policy' with an additional 10% tariff on exports to the USA

He reacted to the BRICS statement condemning the US-imposed 'unilateral tariffs' and attacks 'on Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities'

The USA will impose an additional 10% tariff on countries that support the 'anti-American' BRICS policy, Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social. He made this statement a few hours after the publication of the bloc's declaration, which condemns the American president's policy—imposing tariffs and strikes on Iran.

'Any country supporting the anti-American BRICS policy will be subject to an additional 10% tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy. Thank you for your attention to this matter!' the US president declared.

The day before, BRICS members published a joint declaration condemning the US-imposed 'unilateral tariff and non-tariff measures that distort trade and do not comply with WTO rules.' The text of this declaration does not directly mention the USA or Donald Trump, but it de facto condemns Washington's policy.

The document also includes a point expressing serious concern about attacks 'on civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities' in Iran. Additionally, the declaration strongly condemns Ukrainian military operations in the Russian rear—attacks on bridges and railway infrastructure, 'deliberately targeting civilians in the Bryansk, Kursk, and Voronezh regions.'

Trump had already threatened BRICS countries with import tariffs of up to 100% in January of this year if they attempted to create an alternative to the US dollar.

This week marks the end of the 90-day period during which Washington postponed the tariff increase. Increased tariffs may be imposed on countries that have not concluded special agreements with Washington. Currently, only three agreements are known to have been concluded—with the United Kingdom, China, and Vietnam.
