UPD: As reported by The New York Times, at least 68 people have died as a result of the flood. 11 girls from the Camp Mystic summer camp are listed as missing.
The death toll from the flood in Texas has risen to 51 people, including 15 children, reports CNN. Search and rescue operations are ongoing. Dozens of people are listed as missing, including 27 girls who were vacationing at the Camp Mystic summer camp, located near the Guadalupe River, which overflowed its banks after heavy rains hit Texas Hill Country.
The Trump administration will grant Texas Governor Greg Abbott's request to declare a state of emergency to assist the state, after the president rejected several similar requests this year and attempted to shift the burden of disaster recovery to the states.
The flood in Central Texas has become one of the most destructive in recent years. The Guadalupe River overflowed its banks after torrential rains, and in two hours the water level rose by more than six meters.
