The Moscow City Court sentenced former Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov to 13 years in prison, reported a correspondent from «Mediazona»* from the courtroom.
As noted by «Agency»*, this is one of the harshest sentences in modern Russian history for cases involving Russian officials holding positions no lower than deputy minister of a federal ministry.
Ivanov was also fined 100 million rubles, and the court ordered him to be stripped of his state awards.
Ivanov's former assistant Anton Filatov was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison and was also fined 25 million rubles.
The prosecution requested to sentence Ivanov to 14.5 years in prison, and Filatov to 14.
Timur Ivanov was arrested in April 2024.
He was accused of receiving a bribe of 1.185 billion rubles in 2018-2023 from Alexander Fomin, co-founder of the company «Olimpsitistroy», a major military contractor. According to the investigation, this was the cost of the house construction and estate renovation in central Moscow carried out by Fomin for Ivanov.
Subsequently, Ivanov was also accused of money laundering and two episodes of embezzlement.
Since March, the case of money laundering and embezzlement has been heard in closed sessions at the Moscow City Court. In one episode, Ivanov is accused of embezzling 219 million rubles in the purchase of two ferries for the Kerch crossing «through fictitious agreements for consulting and advisory services». A credit line was arranged at «Intercommerzbank» for the purchase of the vessels.
In the second episode, Ivanov is accused of organizing the embezzlement of 3.9 billion rubles from «Intercommerzbank» under the guise of fictitious currency purchase agreements. The criminal case related to the embezzlement of funds from «Intercommerzbank» was initiated back in 2016, and two years later Anton Filatov was arrested in connection with it. The case was later closed, but in April of this year, it was reopened, and Ivanov's former assistant was detained again.
On June 21, state news agencies TASS and RIA «Novosti» reported a new case against Ivanov. According to the investigation, he received a bribe of 152 million rubles from Alexander Fomin of «Olimpstroy».
