In a short message on the State Department's website, it states that the U.S. "remains committed to supporting the Russian people in their pursuit of a brighter future".
"We also take this opportunity to reaffirm the United States' desire to constructively engage with the Russian Federation to achieve lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine. We hope that peace will foster the development of more mutually beneficial relations between our countries," the U.S. Secretary of State said.
In recent months, the U.S. has held a series of separate meetings with representatives of Russia and Ukraine to resolve the full-scale war. During one of the meetings, Washington proposed a complete ceasefire to Kyiv, which Ukraine immediately supported. However, the Kremlin rejected this idea.
After this, Donald Trump stated several times about the possible withdrawal of the U.S. from the negotiation process, threatened sanctions that were never imposed, "so as not to derail the deal".
