Ukrainian GUR reported the explosion of a freight train with fuel tanks in the Zaporizhzhia region

2025.06.01

According to Ukrainian intelligence, it was heading to annexed Crimea

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine claims that on the night of May 31, a freight train was blown up near the settlement of Yakymivka in the Melitopol district of the Zaporizhzhia region, which is under the control of Russian authorities.

The "freight train" was moving towards temporarily occupied Crimea. "As a result of the explosion on the railway track, the train with fuel tanks and freight cars derailed. The key logistical artery of the Russians in the occupied territories of the Zaporizhzhia region and Crimea is disrupted," UNIAN quotes the GUR message.

The agency also reported that after the explosion, the Russians announced a "plan-intercept" — patrols of the Russian Guard are driving through the settlements, checks are being conducted at checkpoints, and those entering or leaving are being checked particularly thoroughly.

Russian authorities have not commented on the information about the train explosion in the Zaporizhzhia region.
