Germany will finance the production of long-range weapons in Ukraine, and the first systems may be deployed in the coming weeks, the German defense ministry reported on Wednesday. The agreement was signed in Berlin by the defense ministers of the two countries, Rustem Umerov and Boris Pistorius.

«Casualties, injuries, mass destruction — despite Ukraine and many Western countries advocating for a ceasefire between Kyiv and Moscow for some time, Putin's Russia is currently subjecting Ukraine to the most powerful drone strikes since the start of the Russian aggressive war. During the visit of the Ukrainian Defense Minister to Bendlerblock in Berlin on May 28, 2025, Defense Minister Pistorius once again emphasized Germany's unwavering position and promised concrete support to the attacked country.

This agreement is also based on Germany's commitment to directly invest in Ukrainian defense production. The country still has unused production capacities and technical expertise to produce modern systems», — stated the German department's message.

In 2025, a significant number of long-range weapon systems are planned to be produced. Germany will also continue to supply ammunition. In addition to the promised artillery ammunition deliveries this year, additional ammunition sets for various weapon systems, including important air defense systems, will be provided. Germany is also supplying Ukraine with additional ground weapon systems and firearms.

Umerov also signed a supply agreement with the company Diehl — the manufacturer of IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile systems and their missiles. When it comes to supplying German long-range weapons to Ukraine, it primarily refers to Taurus cruise missiles with a range of up to 500 km.

Earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Germany and its allies had long lifted the range restriction on the weapons they supply to Ukraine.

The total amount of the aforementioned support for the Ukrainian armed forces is about 5 billion euros. This money comes from funds already approved by the Bundestag.
