The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported the start of a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the USA, and Turkey. The United States is represented at the meeting by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the President's special envoy Kit Kellogg, and the US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack. From the Ukrainian side, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov are participating.
The mood of the American delegation, which arrived in Istanbul to participate in peace settlement talks regarding the war in Ukraine, is 'quite gloomy'. This was reported by BBC correspondent Tom Bateman, who flew to Turkey on May 16 with Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
According to him, American officials 'would like to report to their boss that they managed to achieve the summit he so desired'—a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. However, this did not happen.
As previously reported by 'Suspilne', in the morning in Istanbul, a meeting was held between Andriy Yermak, Andriy Sybiha, and Rustem Umerov with national security advisors from France, Germany, and the UK, as well as with US special representative Kit Kellogg.
At 12:30, a trilateral meeting between the delegations of Russia, Ukraine, and Turkey is expected to take place.
