Two Ukrainian soldiers captured in the Kursk region sentenced to 16 years in prison on charges of 'terrorism'

Platoon commander of the 21st separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Dmitry Yaremov, and technician-driver of the 4th rapid response commandant's office, Anton Borimsky, were sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment in a 'terrorism' case, reported the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. Yaremov will spend the first five years of his sentence in prison, and the remaining 11 years in a high-security colony. Borimsky will spend the first three years in prison, and the remaining term also in a high-security colony.

According to the investigation, in October 2024, Yaremov, 'armed with a machine gun, illegally invaded the territory of the Russian Federation as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine units'. He was accused of 'intimidating local residents' and obstructing evacuation. The prosecution claims he 'repeatedly opened fire to kill Russian military personnel and civilians, and also participated in the illegal armed blockade of the village of Novy Put'.

Borimsky was also charged with shooting at military personnel and civilians, as well as 'obstructing the evacuation of the civilian population' from the settlements of Obukhovka, Vnezapnoe, Snagost, and Komarovka in the Korenevsky district from August to October.

According to The Insider*, in April, judges of the Moscow District Military Court at off-site sessions in Kursk issued 27 sentences against 58 prisoners of war, with five sentences handed down on April 11. They were accused of 'terrorism', despite serving in the active army during the war, and were sentenced to terms ranging from 14 to 17 years.
