A resident of Pskov, who was sentenced to 5.5 years under the article on military 'fakes', had his sentence toughened on appeal

The prosecutor's office appealed the decision of the court of first instance, considering the punishment too lenient

In March, the Pskov City Court sentenced local resident Roman Morozov to 5.5 years in a penal colony on charges of spreading 'fakes' by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, motivated by 'political hatred'. He was also banned from administering channels and websites for three years. The reason for the criminal prosecution was the man's comments on social media about the actions of the Russian army.

As reported by 'Pskovskaya Guberniya', the prosecutor's office filed an appeal with the regional court, pointing out the leniency of the punishment for a 'socially dangerous' crime and petitioned for a sentence of seven years in a penal colony. The appellate court satisfied the prosecutor's demand.

This week it also became known that the appellate court in Moscow toughened the sentence of 21-year-old resident of Ulan-Ude Alexey Badmaev, convicted for a comment on social media and transferring 500 rubles to the RDK*. On charges of 'state treason', the court of first instance sentenced him to seven years in a penal colony.

The prosecutor's office filed an appeal, indicating that it considered the punishment too lenient, and demanded to double the prison term. Now instead of seven years, he will spend 14 years in a high-security penal colony.
