«Friendship of Nations» at the Russian-Estonian border

2025.05.09

In the Russian town of Ivangorod, a screen was set up facing the Estonian town of Narva, broadcasting the Victory Parade, while Estonians displayed a banner with Putin depicted as Hitler

The Russian authorities organized a broadcast of the Victory Parade right on the Ivangorod embankment — specifically for the residents of Estonian Narva. Last year, a concert by a Cossack choir and the performance of the Russian anthem were held in this format. This time, they decided to limit it to the parade broadcast and a concert featuring Tatyana Bulanova and Soso Pavliashvili. Additionally, for added effect, an exhibition of military equipment was opened on the way to the stage.

The Narva Museum in Estonia, as in the previous year, displayed a large poster with Putin. The banner was hung on the wall of Narva Castle, facing the stage on the other side of the Narva River.

The director of the Narva Museum, Maria Smorzhevskikh-Smirnova, called the banner action a «message that serves as a reminder of today's full-scale war and war crimes».

«Today, on Europe Day, we celebrate peace and freedom. With the end of World War II, peace and freedom, respect for sovereignty, and the principles of solidarity became the core values of the European community. At the same time, a full-scale war, initiated by Putin, has been ongoing next to us for the fourth year. We call a dictator a dictator, war crimes — war crimes», — stated Smorzhevskikh-Smirnova.

In January, the Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested Maria Smorzhevskikh-Smirnova in absentia on charges related to military «fakes».
