The Moscow authorities have decided to restore a bas-relief depicting the dictator Joseph Stalin surrounded by young workers and children with flowers at the "Taganskaya" station (at the intersection of the Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya, Koltsevaya, and Kalininskaya lines), which was destroyed in the 1960s, reported the Telegram channel "Development of the Moscow Metro and Transport".
According to the channel, a reduced copy of the bas-relief, which was originally located at the end of the "Taganskaya" station, will be created on the wall in the passage. The composition was called "The People's Gratitude to the Leader-Commander." As noted by the magazine "Muscovite," the restoration of the Stalin monument has not been officially announced. A sign hanging on the protective fence, which covers the work area, states that wall repairs are being carried out in the passage, to be completed in the second quarter of 2025.
In recent years, the authorities have been pursuing a policy of rehabilitating Stalin, with monuments appearing across the country. In May, the inscription "Stalin" was installed on Mount Kitkay in the Irkutsk region. In the Vologda region, two monuments to Stalin were installed in the past year. Georgy Filimonov, who became the governor of the Vologda region in October 2023, is known for his admiration for Joseph Stalin. In the office of the head of the region hangs a painting depicting the dictator shaking his hand.
