The target was a residential area, three people died, residents of two settlements are being urgently evacuated

Russia dropped 15 KABs on the Sumy region in one day, damaging at least six residential buildings.

In the Belopillia district, a 48-year-old man died as a result of the shelling, and a 34-year-old resident was injured, reported «Suspilne Sumy» citing the head of the local administration, Yuriy Zarko. In the city of Vorozhba, two people died as a result of an airstrike.

The head of the Sumy district administration, Mykhailo Melnyk, reported the urgent evacuation of residents from these two border settlements.

«I urge residents of Belopillia and Vorozhba to urgently evacuate to a safe place! Evacuation buses leave every morning at 8:00», wrote Melnyk. According to him, registration for evacuation is available 24/7.

Before the full-scale war, about 16,000 people lived in Belopillia, and in May last year, authorities reported that about 6,000 residents remained in the settlement. The population of the city of Vorozhba was about 7,000 people before February 2022, and last summer local authorities said that about 3,000 residents remained.

Ukrainian military repeatedly reported plans by Russian forces to launch an offensive on Sumy at the beginning of summer. At the same time, local authorities claim that the Russian army continues attempts to create a buffer zone in the Sumy region, but have not achieved significant success.
