As ASTRA* has learned, on April 21, a military KAMAZ did not yield to pedestrians at the crossing, it simply drove through without slowing down. Two of them managed to react, but one ended up under the wheels.
According to local public pages, the deceased was a 20-year-old first-year student at the Donbas National Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture (MISI).
It is claimed that the driver was a 28-year-old soldier from Chechnya, Samrail Yagaev.
Accidents involving the military are not uncommon. Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, at least 20 civilians have died and another 32 have been injured in accidents caused by the military in the Belgorod region alone, according to the publication «Vot Tak»*. Drivers in uniform are most often fined 2,500 rubles or given suspended sentences, even if the accident resulted in fatalities. In one accident, a soldier in a truck crushed a car with a woman and her 12-year-old daughter, and the investigation declared him a «witness».
