The FSB reported on preventing a terrorist attack at a petrochemical enterprise in the Nizhny Novgorod region and the killing of two suspects in its preparation, TASS reported.
According to the intelligence agency, two natives of Central Asia, acting under the direction of a Ukrainian handler, were planning to attack an unnamed enterprise with FPV-drones. During the arrest, the FSB claims, they «offered armed resistance and were neutralized by return fire».
According to the FSB, the men «retrieved FPV-drones with improvised explosive devices from a cache for carrying out a sabotage-terrorist act».
«At the scene of the incident» the security forces discovered «two drones with combat parts made of foreign explosive material, a Kalashnikov rifle, and a Makarov pistol», and in the phones of the deceased — «correspondence with the handler, indicating preparation for a sabotage-terrorist act, as well as coordinates of a cache with means of destruction and firearms».
The investigative department of the FSB in the Nizhny Novgorod region initiated a criminal case «on the fact of preparation for sabotage».
At the end of January, Ukrainian drones attacked the Kstovo industrial zone near Nizhny Novgorod — at that time a fire occurred at the olefin production enterprise «SIBUR-Kstovo».
