The White House has begun the process of searching for a new Secretary of Defense, an American official anonymously told National Public Radio (NPR).

The newspaper The New York Times previously reported that Hegseth shared details before the strikes on Yemen last month with his wife and brother in a Signal chat on his personal phone, minutes after being informed by a senior U.S. military official.

In the past few weeks, four of Hegseth's senior advisors have suddenly left their positions, some of them accused of leaking information.

In March, the head of the Pentagon also wrote details about actions against the Houthis in Yemen in a Signal chat with senior White House officials, which accidentally included a journalist from The Atlantic. The publication released the correspondence.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt denied reports of attempts to replace Hegseth, writing on the X site that President Trump «firmly stands» behind him.
