The Sverdlovsk Regional Court sentenced 27-year-old resident of the city of Lesnoy, Evgeny Varaksin, to 12 years in a strict regime colony on charges of treason, reports "Mediazona"*. The man was also fined 300 thousand rubles and given a probation period of 1.5 years.

According to the investigation, Varaksin, while in Poland, transferred 100 zlotys "to finance the Armed Forces of Ukraine". He partially admitted guilt, according to the prosecutor. The investigation claims that Varaksin transferred the money in April 2022, but he was only arrested on July 22, 2024.

As "Mediazona" found out, 27-year-old Evgeny Varaksin has been working at FSUE "Electrochemical Plant" since at least 2020, which is "one of the leading enterprises of the nuclear weapons complex of the state corporation Rosatom and a city-forming enterprise of the city of Lesnoy in the Sverdlovsk region".

The case of Varaksin was considered by Judge Andrey Mineev, who sentenced The Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich to 16 years in a colony on charges of "espionage".
