In Yekaterinburg, a trial has begun for a Ural preacher who helped men evade mobilization

2025.04.15

He has already been fined for «discrediting» the Russian army, and is now being tried for «justifying terrorism» due to a comment under a post about the arson of a military enlistment office

The Central District Military Court in Yekaterinburg is hearing a case of repeated «discrediting» the army and «justifying terrorism» against a preacher from the village of Savinovo in the Sverdlovsk region, Eduard Charov, reported the local publication It’s My City.

According to the investigation, in August 2023, under a post about the arson of a military enlistment office in Polevskoy, the man wrote: «Award with the Order of Courage». The authorities interpreted this as «justifying terrorism».

«All this is slander against me. They just appointed a terrorist from a remote village to fulfill the terrorist plan», — commented Charov on the accusation.

In April 2023, Charov was already fined 65 thousand rubles for «discrediting» the army and «inciting hatred» personally towards Vladimir Putin. After the start of «partial» mobilization in September 2022, some men could hide from mobilization in a homeless shelter that Charov had opened back in 2012. On November 24, 2022, the preacher wrote on social media that the «almshouse continues to accept conscripts who fled from moBilization. We provide temporary shelter, food, and payment for travel to other cities».
