The Moscow Regional Court sentenced a resident of Shchyolkovo, Roman Mayorov, to 4 years and 10 months in a general regime colony on charges of working for Ukrainian intelligence, reported "Mediazona"* citing the court's press service. In addition to the actual term, he was fined 300 thousand rubles.
Mayorov was found guilty of "confidential cooperation with a foreign state." According to the investigation, the man corresponded on WhatsApp with a representative of the Ukrainian special services, Dmitry Karpenko, from December 2023 to January 2024. The accused himself then suggested that it was about the Ukrainian blogger Dmytro Karpenko, who publishes interviews with Russian prisoners on YouTube. Mayorov admitted his guilt.
Before the measure of restraint was chosen in the criminal case, the resident of Shchyolkovo was subjected to five administrative arrests. Mayorov was detained for "disorderly conduct" and "disobedience to a police officer" in different cities of the Moscow region until he was charged under a criminal article.
While Mayorov was under administrative arrest, his phone was seized and his correspondence was reviewed. The reason why he came under the attention of law enforcement is unknown. As reported by lawyer Valery Chernov, one of the witnesses in the case is classified and uses a pseudonym, and the second is participating in the war against Ukraine.
