«People of Baikal» calculated that since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 900 natives of the Irkutsk region and Buryatia have died. Meanwhile, the total number of mobilized from Pribaikalye amounted to 9000 people, meaning losses among the mobilized alone were 10%.
The mobilized accounted for approximately 17% of all casualties in the publication's study. At present, according to «People of Baikal» calculations, 2570 natives of Buryatia and 2537 servicemen from the Irkutsk region have died in Ukraine.
Journalists note that the list of the deceased was compiled based on open data — reports in the media, military commissariats, and public organizations. Therefore, the actual numbers may be significantly higher, but the authorities do not disclose loss statistics in Ukraine.
In Buryatia, the one-time payment for signing a contract with the Ministry of Defense is one of the lowest in the country — 400 thousand rubles, with an additional 100 thousand rubles paid by «business». In the Irkutsk region, the regional payment was increased to 1 million rubles in March.
