The Southern District Military Court sentenced Roman Arkhangelsky, who was mobilized into the Russian army, to 15 years of strict regime. He was found guilty of the intentional murder of two people, committed in a publicly dangerous manner, with one of the crimes intended to conceal the other, reported «Kommersant».
According to the publication, the mobilized Arkhangelsky in February 2023 in the «special military operation zone» during a feast quarreled with a comrade and shot him with an automatic rifle. Then he saw another soldier and, deciding that he had witnessed the incident, shot him too.
The case materials indicate that the killer decided to cover up the crime by simulating an attack by a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group. And after this did not work out, he turned himself in.
The prosecutor did not seek the maximum punishment for the killer in the form of life imprisonment, as the victim's side requested. According to «Kommersant», the representative of the military prosecutor's office noted in court that the defendant has a young child, was characterized exclusively positively before participating in the «special military operation», and expressed a desire to return to the front.
