«Falanster» and intellectual literature caught the interest of the prosecutor's office

2025.03.15

Law enforcement conducted an inspection, seizing several books under a receipt, including «Discipline and Punish» by Michel Foucault

Employees of the prosecutor's office visited the oldest Moscow bookstore of intellectual literature «Falanster», journalist Ivan Davydov reported on his Telegram channel. The reason for the inspection, which took place on March 13, he suggests, was a denunciation. As a result, law enforcement found nothing illegal, but seized several books under a receipt.

Among the seized publications were the work of French philosopher Michel Foucault «Discipline and Punish», as well as works by Hannah Arendt, German philosopher Walter Benjamin, and American writer Susan Sontag.

In February, «Falanster» canceled the presentation of Kirill Medvedev's book «Antifascism for Everyone. Revised and Expanded» following denunciations by pro-government activists. According to «Falanster» founder Boris Kupriyanov, the event was complained about by «so-called leftist» activists and «Orthodox imperialists».

«Falanster» has been operating in Moscow since 2002. Its co-founder is publicist Boris Kupriyanov. «Afisha Daily» last year included «Falanster» among the best independent bookstores in the capital.
