Reuters: US to Resume Deliveries of Long-Range Bombs to Ukraine

2025.03.14

"Winged bombs" with a range of up to 150 km will arrive amid reports of ATACMS stock depletion

The US intends to resume deliveries of bombs to Ukraine with a range of about 150 kilometers, after they have been upgraded, two sources told Reuters. The delivery of GLSDB bombs, produced by the American Boeing and Swedish Saab Group, was first announced in 2023.

The gliding bomb has small wings that increase its range and consists of a small diameter bomb and an M26 rocket engine, which are widely available in American warehouses and relatively inexpensive.

The ammunition will be delivered amid reports that the stocks of Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) with a similar range in Ukraine are depleted.

The deliveries, approved by the Biden administration, began in 2024, but soon the vulnerability of the shells to signal jammers was discovered. The shells have now been upgraded, removing the identified vulnerabilities.

On Tuesday, the administration of President Donald Trump agreed to resume military assistance and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, after Kyiv stated it was ready to support Washington's proposal for a 30-day ceasefire with Russia.

The resumption of GLSDB use on the battlefield could occur in the coming days, as stocks are already available in Europe.
