Rosfinmonitoring added political prisoner Alexey Gorinov to the list of 'terrorists and extremists'

2025.03.11

This is related to the sentence in the second criminal case of 'justifying terrorism' for conversations with cellmates

In November 2024, Alexey Gorinov was sentenced to three years in a penal colony. Taking into account the previous sentence, the total term will be five years, but now he is in a high-security colony. The accusation was based on the former deputy's conversations with ward neighbors in the prison hospital after the sentence in the first criminal case. The testimonies of all three witnesses coincided verbatim and completely repeated the essence of the accusation.

According to the investigation, Gorinov allegedly justified the bombing of the Crimean bridge, as well as the actions of the 'Azov' battalion* and the GUR 'Kraken' unit*, which are recognized in Russia as 'terrorist organizations'. Gorinov himself claims that he was provoked into political conversations and insists that he did not say anything that could be interpreted as 'justifying terrorism'.

Since July 2022, Alexey Gorinov has been serving a seven-year sentence under the article on military 'fakes' for proposing a minute of silence in memory of the victims of aggression in Ukraine at a meeting of deputies of the Krasnoselsky district of Moscow.

Gorinov's lawyers have repeatedly reported a significant deterioration in his health in the colony. In 2016, part of his lung was removed due to a chronic illness. In January 2024, the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention demanded the immediate release of Alexey Gorinov. According to the practice of the Constitutional Court of Russia, the opinions of the UN Working Group are grounds for reviewing the case based on new circumstances. However, Russia not only did not comply with the decision in Gorinov's case but also added a new term for a politically motivated and fabricated case.

In 2024, Rosfinmonitoring added 3,165 people to the list of 'persons involved in terrorist and extremist activities', which is almost twice as many as the previous year: in 2023, the agency included more than 1.7 thousand people in the list of 'extremists and terrorists'.

Being included in the 'terrorists and extremists' register imposes a ban on a person from conducting property transactions, inheriting, and using bank cards.
