The Serbian parliament held the first session of the spring session today, which ended with a fight and explosions of smoke bombs. Deputies fought during the session, someone brought smoke bombs and flares into the parliament building. Several ambulances arrived. Three people were injured, including 64-year-old Jasmina Obradovic, a deputy of the ruling party. She suffered a concussion and was hospitalized, reports the Telegram channel Serbia–LIVE.
The reason was the amendments to the education law, which the ruling party introduced after student protests.
On November 1 of last year, a glass, metal, and concrete canopy collapsed over the entrance door of the train station building in the city of Novi Sad, killing 15 people. Many in Serbia believe that the huge concrete canopy fell due to negligent reconstruction work, which was the result of corruption. The Serbian prosecutor's office charged 13 people, including a government minister and several state officials. However, former Minister of Construction Goran Vesic was released from custody, which increased doubts about the independence of the investigation.
Protests began across the country, with students being the main drivers. Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic resigned. Authorities reported that the prosecutor's office initiated criminal cases against 37 people for attacks on students and professors.
