Khanevich — one of the initiators of the creation of the Memorial Museum «NKVD Investigative Prison» in 1989. From 2002 to 2019, he was the head, and then worked there as a senior researcher. The museum «NKVD Investigative Prison», a branch of the Tomsk Regional Museum of Local Lore named after M. B. Shatilov — the first museum in the country dedicated to the history of mass repressions during the USSR period. The museum is located in the basement of a building, where from 1923–1944 the internal prison of the Tomsk city department of the OGPU-NKVD was located.
The last time Khanevich's name was associated with the installation of memorial posts in September last year with portraits and stories of 30 people executed at this place. On October 11, the Tomsk city administration demanded the removal of the posts as «unauthorized constructions», and a week later they were removed.
