The final statement of an employee of the Institute of Thermophysics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, who faces seven years for scientific activity

The state prosecution requested seven years in a penal colony for an employee of the Institute of Thermophysics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Oleg Kabov on criminal charges of «fraud». The case was initiated by two of his former students — Karapet Eloyan and Alexey Kreta.

The final statement of Oleg Kabov in court

«A literary character once said words that became a moral compass for many: «Never ask for anything! Never and nothing, and especially from those who are stronger than you». Therefore, in my final statement, Your Honor, I will not burden you with my requests.

I will only speak about what I personally have learned from what is called the Russian criminal justice system.

In the scientific project for which I am now being judged, for which I have been deprived of the opportunity to engage in science and communicate with fellow scientists for more than two years, my like-minded colleagues and I have essentially made a scientific discovery. And I am not the only one who knows this; many physicist scientists in Russia and around the world are aware of it.

The criminal case, in which I was a suspect, accused, and now I am a defendant, is a test not only for me, for my loved ones, and for Science. I am convinced, this criminal case is also a chance for ALL OF US!

Whether we will delve even deeper into the world of «eloyanism — draftism», into the world of ignorance and the world of baseness, or we will take a step towards Enlightenment, Science, Goodness, Dignity, respect for Law and Order, today depends also on your decision, Your Honor!

It is precisely your decision that will determine whether the novice prosecutor — state prosecutor Yana Kuzmina will continue to live and serve by the principle: «Think of the good, but do what you are ordered», or she will leave this courtroom enlightened, believing in the existence of Law and Order. As best as I could, I endured the trial that befell me. And I do not know what trials await me ahead. But, strangely enough, I have become better, kinder, and wiser. Probably also because I saw this world not only from the window of my scientific laboratory.

Now, Your Honor, it is your turn to undergo the Trial that has befallen you. Before you retire to the deliberation room to make a final decision on the criminal case, I sincerely wish you Wisdom and Overcoming, Overcoming and Wisdom!».
