Donald Trump on board Air Force One told the New York Post that he spoke on the phone with Vladimir Putin about the war in Ukraine, without specifying when the call took place. When asked how many times he had spoken with Putin on the phone, Trump replied: «I’d rather not say».
Trump once again reiterated his belief that the war in Ukraine would not have started if he had been president in 2022. According to Trump, unlike his predecessor, he «always had good relations with Putin».
According to Trump, Putin «cares» about the killings on the battlefield, «he wants people to stop dying».
Trump also noted that he has a specific plan to end the war, without revealing details. «I hope it will be quick. People are dying every day. I want to end this damn thing», — he stated.
Trump also said that he wants to make a $500 million deal with Zelensky to gain access to rare earth minerals and gas in Ukraine in exchange for security guarantees in any potential peace settlement.
It is expected that next week US Vice President JD Vance will meet with Vladimir Zelensky at the Munich Security Conference.
